Os SLIPKNOT, e membros dos METALLICA, MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY, KREATOR, ALL THAT REMAINS e TRIVIUM estão entre os músicos que reagiram nas redes sociais ao falecimento de Joey Jordison. Como noticiado ontem, a trágica morte de Joey Jordison, com apenas 46 anos, apanhou toda a gente de surpresa e abanou profundamente qualquer ouvinte de música. Desta vez não foi apenas o habitual “RIP”, seguido de tentar escutar um ou dois temas no Spotify para saber quem é o músico em questão. Não, desta vez foi um luto sentido e profundo, que fez muitos fãs mergulharem na memória e virem a público recordar a primeira vez que ouviram a banda. E para quem chegou a eles através do álbum homónimo, ou de «Iowa», a sensação foi profunda e inesquecível. Fotos, referências, memórias, até mesmo um simples “RR 8655 – 1”, número de catálogo do primeiro álbum, serviram e servem de homenagem global ao baterista. A verdade é que, além da importância do grupo de Des Moines, que serviu de porta de entrada a muitos milenais no mundo do metal, Joey era um exímio baterista, reconhecido entre os pares e portador de um estilo muito próprio. Nas redes, alguém escreveria que ele “trouxe os blast beats para a música popular” — e isso é dizer (quase) tudo acerca do que fez pela música pesada.
Mesmo fora dos SLIPKNOT esta era a banda a que continuava a ser associado mais frequentemente, por isso foram desde cedo muitos, aqueles que se pediram uma reacção do grupo. Chegou passado horas, com as páginas de entrada a negro. Algo semelhante se passou com os STONE SOUR, banda de Corey Taylor. Antes disso, já os METALLICA tinham deixado um lacónico “R.I.P. brother…”, mas com uma foto que tudo significava, com Joey sentado no lugar de Lars Ulrich, naquela noite, que salvou o headlining de um festival inglês, depois do pequeno dinamarquês se ter sentido mal. Na sua página, Otep Shamaya lembrava como tinha recorrido a Joey para gravar o seu «House of Secrets» e como o mesmo tinha acedido, numa fase em que era doloroso tocar e a sua doença estava numa fase descontrolada. Também Rob Zombie se manifestou, e ambos tinham colaborado num álbum. Uma característica comum, foi que muitos músicos fizeram questão de revelar fotos ao lado de Joey, fossem músicos de velha guarda e influentes (como Tom G. Fisher, dos CELTIC FROST), quer fossem músicos mais novos, como foi o caso dos TRIVIUM, recordando quando Matt Heafy colaborou com Joey e outros, no contexto do projecto «Roadrunner United». E assim, na noite de 27 de Julho, People = Joey.
